Sites suitable for Experienced Divers
Dive Site Name - El Toro
Location – In between Santa Ponsa and Magalluf
Description – Marine reserve / Deep / Reef / Wall Diving
Depth – 5 to 40 metres
Visibility – 15 to 30 metres
To get there – 10 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – Very good dive site with little or no current. Boat moors in a sheltered area. Depth at point of entry is 5 metres with a large shelf area that enables divers to gain confidence before proceeding over the shelf down to 12 metres. This gradually slopes down to 18 metres and then slopes down to 40 metres plus! This area was designated marine reserve status in 2003. Marine life is improving all the time. Common sightings include octopus, moray eels, bream, wrasse, hermit crab, barracuda, nudibranchs, damsel fish and countless other wonders!
Dive Site Name - Isla Malgrats Tip
Location – In between Santa Ponca and El Toro
Description – Deep / Drift / Multi-Level / Wall Diving
Depth – 40 metres
Visibility – 30 metres
To get there – 15 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – Very good dive site with little or no current. This is a drift dive. The boat drops you off close to the wall and you descend to approx 30 metres. Swim along the wall keeping an eye on NDL limits. Common sightings include octopus, moray eels, bream, wrasse, lobster, barracuda, nudibranchs, damsel fish and countless other wonders! Saw a sunfish here last year!
Dive Site Name - Madonna Cave
Location – In between Santa Ponca and Andratx
Description –Deep / Cave / Nitrox Diving
Depth – 28 metres
Visibility – 20 to 30 metres
To get there – 20 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – Interesting dive site. There is a small statue of The Madonna inside. A large conger lives just behind the statue. You can ascend inside this cave through a pocket of fresh water. It challenges the buoyancy! You can surface inside the cave and look at the stalagmites and stalactites.
Dive Site Name - La Mola
Location – In between Santa Ponca and Andratx
Description – Wall / Deep Diving
Depth – 15 to 40 metres
Visibility – 20 to 30 metres
To get there – 20 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – The boat arrives at the site and drops anchor in water that is 10 metres deep. Controlled descent to 10 metres then it is over the edge down to deep. This is a good dive to take advantage of Nitrox!
Dive Site Name - Isla el Sech
Location – Palma Nova / Magalluf
Description – Wreck Diving
Depth – 30 metres
Visibility – 15 to 20 metres
To get there – 30 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – The boat drops the experienced divers off just above the wreck. We then descend down to 29 metres and come across the wreck of a wooden cargo ship. We swim around the small wreck for 10 to 15 minutes then make our way back to the shallow areas and eventually the boat.
Dive Site Name - Cala Monjo - Tunnel
Location – In between Santa Ponca and Cala Fornells
Description – Cave Diving
Depth – 6 to 20 metres
Visibility – 15 to 25 metres
To get there – 15 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View - Nice relaxing dive through a tunnel. The entrance is at 6 metres. There is a slight bend in the tunnel where there are some small caves. In these caves you will see small but aggressive shrimps. The exit of tunnel is at 3 metres. Once everyone is through we descend down to 20 metres and go through a nice swim through. We then make our way back to the boat. This is usually a dive of at least 45 mintues.
Dive Site Name - Cala Monjo - The Pinnacle
Location – In between Santa Ponca and Cala Fornells
Description – Deep / Nitrox / Navigation Diving
Depth – 30 metres
Visibility – 15 to 25 metres
To get there – 15 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – Right outside Cala Monjo bay. It is a vertical rock formation that rises from the sea bed to 10 metres below the surface. Drop off the boat and descend down to the bottom. We then spiral around the formation up to 10 metres. When at 10 metres we follow our compass towards the boat that will be anchored just outside the Cala Monjo tunnel. Good dive if you are PADI Nitrox diver.
Dive Site Name - Isla Dragonera - Eel Wreck Dive
Location – Just off the coast between Andratx and Isla Dragonera
Description – Deep / Wreck Diving
Depth – 36 metres
Visibility – 30 to 40 metres
To get there – 25 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – Challenging dive to say the least but well worth it. This is one of my favourite dives in Mallorca. Dive boat anchors over the old wooden wreck which lies in between Dragonera marine reserve and Andtratx. The water is approx 35 metres deep. Descend down to the wreck. Navigate around the broken up bits that remain and in no time at all the large moray eels will come out to see you! This dive is pushing the boundaries of recreational scuba diving as the NDL are pushed to the minute. Several deco stops are a must on the ascent. One at 20 metres another at 10 and of course the mandatory 3 minutes at 5 metres.
Dive Site Name - Refeaubeitx
Location – Near El Toro
Description – Deep / Drift / Multi-Level / Wall Diving
Depth – 30 metres
Visibility – 20 to 30 metres
To get there – 15 minutes from the dive centre
Instructors View – The boat arrives at this site and we do a negative descent in to the water. Once beneath the surface we swim close to the wall and descend down to 30 metres. Once at 30 metres we make away along the wall towards the island of El Toro. As we approach the NDL limits for 30 metres we ascend along the wall to 15 metres. Continuing along the wall for approximately 15 minutes we ascend to the 5 metre platform that is beneath the boat.
