Finatical Divers Mallorca - May 2007 News Pages
Even though we officially opened for the season on the 5th April this year the season really begins when May arrives. At this time of year the Mediterranean Sea is beginning to warm up rather nicely. The sunshine blessed days move the thoughts of the cold winter in to the back of our minds. The onset of spring see the start of octopus breeding season. It is the time when they are most active! The dry suits are also packed away and either put into storage or sent off for some much needed repairs!
Our first PADI Open Water student of the 2007 scuba diving season was John Barnes. He was over with a few of his mates and combined the hectic night life of Magalluf / Palma Nova with the PADI Open Water scuba diving course here in Majorca.
On the 10th May Ruth Dowsett arrived at Palma airport. The team collected her from the airport and took her to the hotel, that we booked, in Palma Nova / Magaluf. She was only staying for four nights and came over specifically to do the PADI Open Water scuba diving course with Finatical Diver - Majorca.
Mike Clayton was the next gentleman to arrive. He enrolled on the PADI Enriched Air diver course (Nitrox). He decided to do a few extra dives with us too! He almost had 100% in the final exam. What colour is the band on a Nitrox tank Mike? Green or Orange!
Then it was the turn of the boys from Newcastle or was in Sunderland! Sorry lads only kidding. Glenn Shearton and Alan Raine (from Sunderland) were in Mallorca / Majorca for a short weekend staying in Palmanova. They are both PADI Open Water divers and decided to go scuba diving with Finatical Divers – Mallorca. We collected the guys from their hotel and dropped them off. However, Glenn left his mask in the back of the minibus. We arranged to drop it off at hotel Sol Jamaica in Magaluf, where a friend of his was staying. Lucky that. You owe me a pint buddy!
On Saturday 26th May we were due to go to dive in the marine nature reserves at the wonderful island of Cabrerra. This is a truly fascinating dive spot with some huge grouper. We collected certified divers from Palma and Santa Ponsa and made our way to the dive centre. Unfortunately when we arrived the professional skipper informed us that the sea conditions were not safe. So we had to cancel not only the trip to Cabrera but all of the dives for that morning!
The weather improved somewhat during the afternoon and we were able to pick up Gary Thomson and his four friends from the Hotel Tryp Belver in Palma. The five lads, from Scotland, were on a golfing holiday. And in fairness to them they were actually golfing not out on the town. Once the guys were fitted with the suitable wet suits (some took longer than others to get into the suits) we set off to do the PADI Discover Scuba Diver program. Once we got everyone in the water and down to approximately 2 metres we began the exercises required. Whilst the instructor was doing the exercise Sam Heeley was enjoying his first role as a PADI Divemaster. Sam was there to assist and was a great help. Sam Heeley recently qualified as a PADI Divemaster on our PADI Fast Track divemaster program. To find out more about the course and to find out exactly what is involved then please take the time to have a look at the following link. PADI Divemaster Fast Track Course.
