January 2007 News -Sub-aquaholics Scuba Diving Club to Palma Nova, Majorca
January saw the return of one of our regular dive clubs, the Subaquaholics from Bristol. It was their third year visiting the island and they have already expressed an interest in diving with us next year.
This year was the biggest group so far. All in all there were 39 people, 29 divers and 10 non-divers. This year the club took advantage of our extensive contacts here to organise the airport transfers from the airport to their hotel.
The club stayed in a large hotel in the resort of Torrenova which is right next door to Palma Nova and Magaluf. We collected the group every morning from outside their hotel and took them to the dive centre via Santa Ponsa. We then dropped them off early on in the afternoon. Thus giving them plenty of time to enjoy the night life in and around Magaluf and Palma Nova.
The itinerary involved 5 dives that were to completed during their four night stay. Although some people did go out during the evenings and didn’t make the dives the following morning!
The weather was fantastic with plenty of sunshine, no wind and flat seas. We went scuba diving at the marine reserves of El Toro and Isla Malgrats. During these dives we saw plenty of barracuda, moray eels, and some large grouper. We were fortunate to see an octopus or two! The last dive took place in the tunnel of Cala Monjo where we saw plenty of small shrimp.
When all the diving was completed, the kit dried off and packed away some of us went to a local restaurant for a meal and a few glasses of wine!
The following morning we collected the group from their hotel and did a final head count before the coach took them back to the airport for their flight back to Bristol.
