Winter scuba diving in Mallorca and in particular the area in and around Palma Nova, Magalluf and Santa Ponsa can offer a few suprises. Take a look at the pictures of a large grouper then graced the Marine reserve of El Toro during the month.

Recent changes in legislation in Europe have dictated the need for people who work in the marine industry to have the STCW 95 qualification. There are four parts to the this difficult qualification namely, First Aid at Sea, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility, Fire Fighting and Prevention at Sea and Sea Survival. As an EFR instructor I already had one out of the required four. During the month I completed the Fire Fighting and Prevention at Sea and the Sea Survival course at the National Sea Training centre in Gravesend, Kent, UK.
