2008 Scuba Diving Season Kicks Off in Mallorca

April is the beginning of the season for many of the scuba diving operators here in Majorca. Although scuba diving can be enjoyed all year round the onset of the longer days, warmer weather and the increase in the number of flights all occur during the month of April. Spring time is here!

The ‘proper’ start of the season began during the first half of the month with a group of dive buddies from the North East of England. After diving for the previous three years in Malta & Gozo they decided that they fancied something a bit different. Following an exchange of emails between ourselves and Dave Flewker the trip week’s trip was arranged. The group were staying at a three star hotel in Palma Nova, near Magalluf, called Hotel Tobago. It was arranged to for them to complete a five days of two tank scuba diving trips with Finatical Divers here in Majorca. Dave and Andy took advantage of the readily available Nitrox whilst Kevin and Colin stuck to the 15 litre air tanks. Together we completed a series of excellent dives in and around the marine nature reserve of El Toro. They also scuba dived the Cala Monjo – tunnel complex on two occasions. Following the five days of intensive scuba diving the equipment was left at the dive centre to dry out for 24 hours.

On the final day the lads were collected from the hotel and taken to the dive centre to pack and collect their now dry scuba diving equipment. To top a truly great week of scuba diving and the occasional couple of beers we went for an Indian meal in Palma, Mallorca. Here we were treated to a five course authentic Indian buffet complete with wine and water all for 32 Euros per head.

During the month the dates for this season’s scuba diving trips to Cabrerra Marine reserve were announced. These dates are as follows:-

May 3rd & 17th

June 7th, 17th & 28th

July 2nd, 5th, 8th, 13th, 16th, 19th, 22nd, 27th & 30th.

August 2nd, 6th, 10th, 12th, 16th, 20th,24th, 26th & 30th.

September 7th, 13th, 21st & 27th.

October 18th.
